Demmie Aguilar, research coordinator, Clinical Research Division, Regional Cancer Care Associates, LLC, Central Jersey Division, discusses the qualities pharmaceutical companies look for when selecting a clinical trial site.

First, Aguilar says such sponsors ensure that the designated site has the experience to conduct a clinical trial. Moreover, it is important to note if the site(s) ever had an FDA audit and, if so, what those findings were. Designated sites should also have necessary personnel employed and on site, such as research coordinators, laboratory technicians, and qualified investigators.

The investigators should have enough research experience with the patient population of the specific study, as well as have proper training, Aguilar explains.
