Alexander Kutikov, MD, FACS, Chair of the Department of Urology and the Roberta R. Scheller Chair in Urologic Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, will receive the Andrew C. Novick Award from the Kidney Cancer Association.
The award recognizes highly respected healthcare professionals who have made significant contributions in urology and medical oncology for the treatment of kidney cancer.
“Receiving this award is particularly poignant for me, as I was trained by Fox Chase’s President and CEO, Dr. Robert Uzzo, for whom Dr. Novick was an absolutely critical mentor. Dr. Novick’s legacy has certainly influenced my outlook and dedication to the field,” said Kutikov. Uzzo, who is also the Executive Director of the Fox Chase-Temple Urologic Institute, was honored with the award in 2016.
In addition to founding the Urologic Society for Transplantation and Renal Surgery, Novick was the founder and chairman of the Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. His work earned him international renown for contributions to kidney research and renal reconstructive surgery, including pioneering a nephron-sparing surgery that gave patients longer lives.
“This award highlights the incredible work being done by thought leaders in the field,” said Gretchen E. Vaughan, President and CEO of the Kidney Cancer Association. “We are excited to recognize the outstanding contributions made by urologists who continue Dr. Novick’s legacy in transforming the way we diagnose and treat kidney cancer, and we’re honored to recognize Dr. Kutikov’s outstanding work.”
As an award recipient, Kutikov will present a lecture at the Kidney Cancer Association’s 2023 International Kidney Cancer Symposium: North America, which will be held November 9-11 in Nashville, Tennessee. The association is a global community dedicated to serving and empowering patients and caregivers, and leading change through advocacy, research, and education in order to be the universal leader in finding a cure for kidney cancer.
“I am thrilled to accept this award and am honored to be among its long list of prestigious recipients, clinicians who have, and who are still leading the way to new and innovative approaches in caring for kidney cancer patients,” said Kutikov.
The annual symposium allows physicians, researchers, academics, and industry professionals from across the world to collaborate and exchange ideas that will direct the future of kidney cancer research and treatment. The program includes educational and breakout sessions, along with presentations of the latest research in kidney cancer and networking opportunities to strengthen collaboration in the field.
