Deanna J. Attai, MD, breast surgeon, assistant clinical professor of surgery, David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles, explains how social media can help physicians.
Attai says there’s a lot that physicians can learn from social media. By interacting with colleagues online, physicians can interact with one another just as they would in a face-to-face journal club or tumor board.
The online patient community also helps physicians learn, Attai says. Patients online share information about their treatment that they may not feel comfortable sharing in the office. Attai says she believes being involved online helps physicians improve themselves because they can get a better understanding of what patients are going through.
