Primary prevention is an approach that aims to reduce the exposure of UV radiation on human skin. The primary goals are to reduce the exposure through the use of sunscreen and protective clothing, explains Stratigos.

There is also prevention that aims to protect vulnerable populations such as children or outdoor workers. According to Stratigos, it is important for physicians to understand the early clues of skin cancer to better educate their patients on the importance of prevention.
