The 2013 Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium, which was held at the Moscone West Building, San Francisco, California, from January 24-26, focused on the prevention, detection, and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers.

The meeting seeks to facilitate discussion regarding best practices, ideas, and science in order to advance the field of gastrointestinal oncology. The focus of the symposium is on gastrointestinal cancers, specifically cancers of the colon, stomach, pancreas, esophagus, liver, anus, and other organs.

Since its founding over 10 years ago the meeting has drawn attendance from nearly 24,000 people from 109 countries. Additionally, more than 5,200 abstracts have been submitted and more than 350 faculty members have taken part in the program. The 2013 installment of the meeting drew the largest attendance for the meeting with more than 2,900 participants.
