Dhanya K. Nambiar, PhD, Stanford University, discusses combinations with radiation therapy for patients with head and neck cancer.

In order to improve efficacy of radiation therapy, it does not necessarily mean increasing the dosage, explains Nambiar. By lowering the dose and combining radiation with another therapy, it could benefit the effect of the treatment with fewer toxicities.

Galectin-1 as a combinatorial effect with radiation is currently being tested and will hopefully benefit the response and toxicities that patients experience, states Nambiar.
