Alan M. Miller, MD, PhD, Director of the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center and Chief of Oncology for the Baylor Health Care System, discusses immunotherapy for cancer treatment.

The immune system is a powerful weapon within the body that should be used to fight cancer, says Miller. In combination with chemotherapy or targeted therapy, the immune system can be used to attack the cancer and can potentially be much more successful than any other treatments used to date. Once the immune system recognizes the cancer as something to be removed, it can continue to fight off the cancer even after the treatment cycle has ended.

The Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center is working with the Baylor Institute for Immunology Research to move the field of immunotherapy forward in cancer, says Miller.
