There is now a well-defined and limited role of radical nephrectomy according to the kidney cancer guidelines, explains Campbell.

According to Campbell, radical nephrectomy has been over-utilized, which has led to the decrease of kidney function for many patients. The hope is that partial nephrectomy will be considered and lead to an increase in the coming years to better preserve kidney function, states Campbell.
