Charles Catton, MD, professor, Department of Radiation Oncology University of Toronto, discusses quality assurance with radiation therapy for patients with sarcoma.

One aspect of radiation therapy is called quality assurance, where each treatment plan can be reviewed for each patient, explains Catton.

For sarcomas, it’s difficult to get a critical mass of experts around to do this quality assurance in any appropriate fashion, Catton states. In an effort to regionalize this process treatment, plans were discussed online with 3 centers to demonstrate that it was feasible and changes could be identified. It will be a number of years until this is proven to increase care.
