Delivering such care involves answering the question, “What is value?” Landman says. It is a question, he adds, that requires a six-part answer. It is important to determine who is involved in a patient’s treatment plan, including oncologists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, and specialists. Answers will vary depending on the condition being treated.

Additionally, practitioners need to determine how to measure outcomes in these patients, including quality of life and treatment-associated complications, and then how to be more efficient in order to lower costs for patients.
