Recent data shows that patients who receive a cancer diagnosis develop a reaction much like post-traumatic stress disorder. Regardless of the severity of psychological complications, it's important for patients to recognize a problem and for physicians to empower them to disclose it. Carey says that there is a growing number of people who understand and specialize in psycho-oncology.
