Dr Mercado is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and the associate chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Dr Kovacs is chief of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Hamot, as well as codirector of the UPMC Hamot Comprehensive Lung Center in Erie, Pennsylvania.

In our exclusive interview, Drs Mercado and Kovacs discussed the importance of multidisciplinary approaches to lung cancer screening and management, barriers to lung cancer screening that affect how early certain patients are diagnosed with this disease, and where the future of lung cancer detection and treatment is headed.
