PLAINSBORO, N.J. (March 10, 2016)OncLive® and Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa have joined in a Strategic Alliance Partnership to promote public awareness of the latest advances in cancer research, diagnostics and care.

Based in Iowa City, Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is dedicated to bringing the finest cancer care and research to Iowa and beyond. In the new partnership, OncLive’s editorial and marketing teams will publicize important news from the center.

“Adding Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center into our Strategic Alliance Partnership will result in additional content about cancer and the issues that affect patients and their families,” said Michael Hennessy Jr., president of Michael J. Hennessy Associates Inc., which publishes OncLive. “Our goal is to motivate, encourage and inspire others by reporting advances in cancer treatment and research being conducted at Holden and other leading institutions.”

Dr. George Weiner, director of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, added, “Holden is recognized for innovative research, patient care, treatment and education to identify the causes and effects of cancer and to improve treatment of this disease. We’re dedicated to promoting cancer research, providing healthcare related to the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer and educating health care professionals and the general public about cancer.”

As Iowa’s only National Cancer Institute—designated comprehensive cancer center, Holden is a matrix center that spans the university and includes physicians, faculty and researchers from 41 university departments and six colleges, as well as the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Research at Holden is organized into four programs: cancer genes and pathways, experimental therapeutics, free radical metabolism and imaging, and cancer epidemiology and population sciences.

“Outreach is an important component of the Center’s activities,” said Dr. Weiner. “Our collaboration with OncLive’s Strategic Alliance Partnership will help us provide important information about cancer and cancer prevention to patients, their families, health professionals and the public.”

Holden enrolls many patients in its active program of early phase clinical trials and also supports clinical and translational research done in collaboration with other cancer centers, including the Iowa/Mayo Lymphoma Specialized Program of Research Excellence, the National Clinical Trials Network and the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium.

Additional research at Holden includes the efforts of multidisciplinary teams involved in cancer prevention, cancer and obesity, stem cell transplantation and molecular oncology. The Center supports 11 shared research programs exploring molecular and cellular aspects of cancer, clinical trials and population studies.

Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa joins OncLive’s Strategic Alliance Partnership as the latest of more than 65 partners, including other leading cancer centers, nursing schools and oncology network providers around the country.
