Premier Awards Program Recently Named 2014 Giants Class; Event to Honors New York Area Physicians

Plainsboro, N.J.—June 18, 2014—The 2014 Giants of Cancer Care are here, and tomorrow OncLive will host a special celebration event in New York City to honor the three Big Apple-based members of this year’s class of Giants. The reception, which will feature remarks from OncLive representatives, local Giants and other industry leaders, will be held at the Sheraton New York Times Square, on Thursday, June 19 at 6 p.m.

On May 30, OncLive announced the 2014 Giants of Cancer Care, 16 heroes in the oncology field whose careers have been dedicated to improving or prolonging the lives of those with cancer. Three of those Giants are New York-based. Those oncologists are:

  • Riccardo Dalla-Favera, M.D., Columbia University Medical Center — the 2014 Giant in the area of Lymphoma
  • Jimmie C. Holland, M.D., Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center — the 2014 Giant of Cancer Care in the area of Supportive Care
  • Jedd D. Wolchok, M.D., Ph.D., Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center — the 2014 Giant of Cancer Care in the area of Melanoma

Giants of Cancer Care are selected based on their professional achievements, specific contributions to their respective area of expertise, and the overall impact of their work as it relates to oncology as a whole. Giants are chosen by an exclusive advisory board of oncology educators, clinicians and researchers.

"These three outstanding oncologists embody what it means to be giants in cancer care,” said OncLive Chairman and CEO Mike Hennessy. “We are very proud of these and the other members of the 2014 class of Giants for dedicating their lives to changing the paradigm of patient care for the better.”

The Giants of Cancer Care is presented by OncLive, the official website for OncologyLive, Oncology & Biotech News, Urologists in Cancer Care, Oncology Nursing News, Oncology Business Management and Contemporary Oncology.

Each of the 16 Giants are individually profiled in a special edition of the June issue of OncologyLive and prominently featured on OncLive.com. Corporate sponsors of the program include Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals.
