California Researchers Receive Highest Honors From ASTRO Two prominent California-based radiation oncologists are the recipients of Gold Medal awards from the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) this year. David Larson, MD, PhD, FACR, FASTRO, and William McBride, DSc, PhD, received ASTRO’s highest honor during the annual meeting in San Diego in November.
Larson, a former ASTRO president, is a professor emeritus in the departments of Radiation Oncology and Neurological Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He is an internationally recognized authority on body radiosurgery and radiotherapy who has helped train many surgeons and has published extensive research.
McBride, a former member of the ASTRO board of directors, is director of the Division of Cellular and Molecular Oncology in the Department of Radiation Oncology at UCLA. He has been researching the role of damage response to radiation in normal tissue and malignant tumors and ways to change the responses to improve outcomes of radiotherapy.
